Week 20

Final week! Thank you so much for supporting our farm this year.  It felt much more orderly on the farm this season, our first season with nothing planted in Olympia.  I am hoping to send out a survey in the next few weeks.  I know they are kind of annoying, but I will keep it short and would really value your feedback.

I am excited we have some radicchio for you this week.  I know it can be a bit bitter for some people, while other people love it.  We have a few varieties planted this year and you are getting the first one to mature.  I myself am sometimes on the fence about it, but when it is prepared well, it can be delicious.  One of the best things I ate last year was at a farmer potluck  Our friend Joseph from Wobbly Cart Farm brought a radicchio salad with roasted cipollini onions, pears tossed in lemon juice, toasted walnuts and goat cheese.  It was lightly dressed with olive oil and lemon juice.

I want to thank Erin, who packed and delivered your CSA each week both this year and last year.  Erin is most likely moving on to a different job after spending three years with us and we wish them the very, very best.  They have contributed so much to our success and spent a lot of time helping us get our new farm set up during the past two winters.

We will be at the Chehalis Market until the end of October on Tuesdays.  If you find yourself down south on a Tuesday, please stop by and say hi.

Week 9

We started picking eggplant two weeks ago and green and purple bells this week and both are in full swing.  We started picking slicing tomatoes a few weeks ago, but they still aren't cranking.  This week, large shares will have slicing tomatoes and small shares will have cherry tomatoes.  Next week we will do slicers to the smalls and cherries to the larges.  Next week we will give bell peppers as well.  Last week for Thursday's boxes we switched out lettuce for arugula on the smalls and the large shares received both.  My apologies that I haven't been updating the list when things get switched.

Erin who packs and delivers your boxes was out last week and we really missed them, but we pulled it off.  As Kelly was putting carrots into your boxes he said "well, now everyone will know why we don't give carrots more often".  Our new farm is amazing but the struggle for nice carrots is rough.

Our July 4th market is canceled and we are hoping to get caught up on some weeding and get our garlic out this week.  We are also hoping to take our first swim in the river.  It feels like a good week for lettuce/salads.  I had planned to skip lettuce this week, but we will skip it next week instead.  Picked our first few pints of cherry tomatoes this week.  Coming your way soon!

Week 3

We have had a bit of drama the last couple weeks with our well pump going down.  We have a new to us pump in there now that seems to be working, hopefully for the remainder of the season.  We were thankful for the cool weather this past week as it was down from Monday evening until Friday morning.  Kelly skipped the UDistrict market yesterday and helped get us back on schedule.  Other than that things are looking good around here.

This is our one planting of scallions.  I am looking forward to some scallion pancakes this week.  I am happy to have cabbage again too.  Next week you should have carrots again.  I have been loving those as well.  I have been on a homemade ranch/green goddess inspired dressing kick lately with garlic scapes and a ton of herbs.  We had veggies, grilled bread and dip one night last week.  It wasn't what I had intended to make but sometimes the days just slip away from me this time of year!  It gets dark so late.

Happy eating and happy summer!

Week 2

This week's box is going to be a beauty!  We had a couple weeks of carrots out of a hoop house earlier in the season, but this will be our first harvest of field carrots. Fingers crossed that they look good.  The snap peas are really tasty right now.  The zucchinis have yet to go zucchini on us and picked pretty light all last week, but I think this is the week they start to take off.
